How To Care For Your Denby Crockery

16-Feb-2019 22:09:02 / by John Dee

Product Care

Denby is world famous for its stoneware products and is fast gaining a reputation for porcelain (White) and china (China by Denby). As you would expect, all Denby tableware is practical, durable and extremely good looking.

Stoneware

Stoneware clay is very strong. It is fully vitrified (the surface is made glassy and non-porous) which gives it strength, durability and chip resistance.
It can be safely used in:
Dishwasher - Whilst Denby tableware is safe to use in a dishwasher, constant dishwashing may result in discolouration of product over time. We recommend using low temperatures and liquid detergents
Oven & Microwave – for cooking and reheating food. Please note: Using microwaves as a means of warming empty dinnerware can cause damage to both your dinnerware and microwave and is therefore not recommended.
Freezer – for storing food

Porcelain

Similar in strength to stoneware, porcelain has a more translucent body and is naturally a blue-grey white.

China

China by Denby has all the elegance of china with all the long-lasting toughness of Denby. It’s elegant and refined but also tough, useable and chip-resistant.
It can be safely used in:
Dishwasher - Whilst Denby tableware is safe to use in a dishwasher, constant dishwashing may result in discolouration of product over time. We recommend using low temperatures and liquid detergents
Microwave - for cooking and reheating food. Please note: Using microwaves as a means of warming empty dinnerware can cause damage to both your dinnerware and microwave and is therefore not recommended.
Freezer – for storing food
Oven – safe to gradually heat to a maximum of 100°C but not suitable for cooking

Glassware

Denby glass is designed by the team at Denby and then handmade and mouthblown for us by renowned glass factories.

The colour in Denby glass is created by rolling clear glass in coloured chips and melting them so that they fuse. The result makes the colour permanent and irremovable, and because it contains no lead. Denby glass is safe for use in the dishwasher (except for coloured lustre glass). Again we recommend the use of low temperatures and liquid detergents in the dishwasher.

General Care

All pottery and china can crack if exposed to sudden changes in temperature, no matter how strong it is, so please don’t take items from the freezer and put them straight into the oven or microwave. Also, using microwaves as a means of warming empty dinnerware can cause damage to both your dinnerware and microwave and is therefore not recommended.
Please do not expose to direct heat sources such as the hob or grill.

Stacking

Even the hardest surfaces can be scratched: diamond scratches diamond. This can happen with all ceramic goods including your Denby. So please take care when stacking and handling your Denby as scratches can be more visible on coloured glazes.
